- The congressional Office of Technology Assessment (OTA) has prepared
a background paper that describes uses of synthetic-environment technologies
and virtual reality in simulating combat. It traces technology development
from the 1929 Link Trainer through the SAGE air defense system, the first
head-mounted display, and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency's
SIMNET simulator networking project. The text of the background paper is
now available by anonymous ftp from OTA's

- The Jupiter system here at PARC makes routine use of IP multicast for
live video and for live and recorded audio; we also anticipate using it
for `telepointer' data (other users' mouse motions). The only existing
public paper
